What
is the Census?
Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a
headcount of every person living in the United States,
as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. In addition
to determining Congressional representation, the Census
helps describe who we are as a county, state, and
nation.
Census
questionnaires will take less than 10 minutes to complete
and will be mailed or delivered to every U.S. household
in March of 2010. The questions should be answered
based on household composition as of April 1, 2010.
All responses are confidential and protected by law.

Below
are some frequently asked questions. If you have a
question that isn't answered below, feel free to contact
the Town of Rolesville Planning Department at 554-6517.
Why
is the upcoming census important to Wake County?
The Census is important to the Town of Rolesville
for several reasons. The Town has grown tremendously
since the last census in 2000 so we can benefit through:
~
More allocations for the Town of Rolesville and Wake
County's budget (federal and state funds).
~ More than $300 billion in federal funds annually
towards schools, human services, healthcare, etc for
Rolesville and Wake County
~ More state funds for Rolesville for Police, Fire,
and EMS departments plus many other projects.
~ More restaurants and businesses. When restaurants
and retail businesses look at locating in certain
areas they depend heavily on the census figures to
see past and present growth which will peak their
interest more in moving to Town.
How
will the 2010 Census differ from previous census efforts?
In the last census, one in six households received
a long questionnaire asking for detailed socioeconomic
information. In 2010, every residence will receive
a short questionnaire that is simple and fast to complete
and return. More detailed information will be collected
annually from a small percentage of the population
through the American Community Survey.
Will
the information the Census Bureau collects remain
confidential?
Yes. Every Census Bureau worker takes an oath for
life to protect the confidentiality of census responses.
Violation would result in a jail term of up to five
years and/or fine of up to $250,000. By law, the Census
Bureau cannot share an individual’s answers with anyone,
including welfare and immigration agencies.
The
Town of Rolesville is working diligently with Wake
county to make our census successful in Rolesville.
